Andrea Black

Mentored by the late Blues legend John Lee Hooker and Benny Gallagher of Gallagher & Lyle, Gennaro Castaldo of the BPI‘ feels…’ Andrea’s music is timeless and honest with a beautiful and highly intimate quality, that’s not easily forgotten.’

Andrea was born in Sherwood, Nottingham, and was the first ‘Jazzy’ artist to be signed by GWR records, (Motorhead & Hawkwind). Her original fan base was in Japan, where JVC/Victor released her first album Andrea Black. ..(Laid Back In London). Subsequent releases came through Columbia/Sony Japan and EMI/Toshiba/Virgin Published her songs, which launched the Mazda MX5 sports car. Her albums have been released worldwide.

Her second highly acclaimed album also by ‘Q’ magazine and ‘Mojo’, Jumping From The Wall was also released by Columbia/Sony Japan. In 2000 Andrea signed a record deal in California, taking her then baby daughter to San Francisco, where she lived at the home and friend of John Lee Hooker for much of that year. They were about to record an album together, through Trojan’s Indigo Label when John sadly passed away.

Andrea's latest album "Harvest Gold" was released in 2020 and earned her several television appearances and a number of radio interviews. This wonderful collection of 10 of the finest songs from Andrea's pen is set to place Andrea back at the top of the singer / songwriter genre. Touching lyrics and meaningful melodies with bring you back to the golden age of British pop.

When speaking of the record she said "Harvest Gold, was all about harvesting a diverse yet connected selection of my songs and stringing them together in a unique way, to give you, the listener an experience to uplift the senses. There is no better time...there is only now, against the backdrop of this disorientated world we now find ourselves in. I invite you to clear your mind and enjoy the next 53 minutes of my music."

Collaborations have included the albums When Hot Dogs Fly, Lizard Talk with electro synth musician Robert Logan (Mortcheeba & Grace Jones)  and Ether  & Realm  known as, The Black Loganberries, and Perfume Girl with Mike Bell. Her piano and flamenco inspired guitar style complement her dynamic yet intimate voice and the new album Harvest Gold, produced by Paul Hirsh, truly defines her artistry.

Her career to date has been punctuated like many fine artists with highs, and plateau’s from the recent performances as a trio at The Bull’s Head at Barnes, to major International Festivals, in Germany, Romania, Greece and the USA.
